Pieces
Depending on which graded exam you are entering, you will perform three to four pieces from a wide range of styles and genres. Simon uses his 30 years as both a music teacher and examiner to help you choose the best pieces suited to you as an individual.
Theory of Music
Theory of music will help you to progress more quickly on your instrument and gain a broad understanding of classical music. Theoretical musical knowledge works to enhance and support practical studies.
Technical work
Developing a strong technical foundation is crucial to playing with confidence and enjoyment. Scales and arpeggios form a vital part of learning an instrument, learning the best technique is crucial to developing as a musician.
Diplomas
Diplomas are designed to appeal to those musicians who are aspiring to various branches of the profession, and those already involved in it who may be seeking to gain recognition for new or existing skills.
Supporting tests
Music examinations include supporting tests, usually, a selection of sight-reading, aural, musical knowledge and improvising will be asked of you on your examination day. These tests play a key role in musical development and are a vital part of exam preparation.
